Week 14 Memes

  1. Each meme found on knowyourmeme.com relates to my page in several ways. Currently we have been focused on the NBA for the stoppage of play due to COVID-19. The first meme is a photo of LeBron James of the US olympics team sitting with olympian Carmelo Anthony. This meme has been used because it shows him laughing about something. The second meme is a tribute to the late Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant. This is a photo that I’ve seen often as well. Last but not least, MJ! This is one of the most popular memes ever by one of the greatest to ever do it! The target audience intended for these photos and this discussion is anyone that loves sports! If you love sports and active in the media, you’ve seen these and may have something to say!
  2. According to Davison’s framework, memes determine the behavior. I agree with this point because you can quickly view a meme and have a feeling attached to it that relates to the meme. The perfect examples are the ones I listed above. With the LeBron James meme, I think about when I was laughing at something that I thought was pretty funny. This is a mental process of understanding what you are looking at and determining if that can be relatable to you or not. Citation to Davison: Mandiberg, M. (2012). The Social Media Reader. 3. I found these memes I posted on knowyourmemes.com . However, the behaviors of the memes are easily comprehensible. The first photo with LeBron James is a good laugh feeling. The second photo with Kobe Bryant relates to a accomplished, smooth, “I did it” feeling. Photo three with Michael Jordan is can be from a disappointed or highly upset, to tears of joy. These are all photos I’ve seen before because they spread on something called social media! This is where everybody can see the meme and add their own twist to it for others to see!
  4. The manifestations of each photo is different. LeBron James is sitting on the bench in a game, but he’s enjoying himself, laughing! He’s not in an as serious game mode which is the typical LeBron we are used to seeing. With the passing of Kobe Bryant we have been saddened and reflected a lot about his career, so I just wanted to take a good moment and flip that meme potentially into something we can relate to. With the Jordan meme, ESPN recently aired his documentary, The Last Dance, I had to include him somehow. We are very aware of this crying meme but we are used to seeing this assassin on the court, not crying.
  5. To conclude, I feel like my best meme is the Jordan meme. This meme can take this blog discussion and potentially boost the conversations because of how famous this meme is. Also, as stated earlier, The Last Dance just aired. To include Michael Jordan to a part of this can bring in more bloggers as he is currently trending.
